When shopping around for a steam cleaner you will notice that there are a number of types to choose from suitable for a variety of uses. One thing they all have in common is that they heat water to create steam, that steam is then used to clean. The cleaners come in different sizes – small cleaners are ideal for spot cleaning whilst larger machines are used to clean whole carpets. Prices will vary too with the better performing units costing more.

Steam Cleaner Uses

Home steam cleaners are ideal for bathrooms. Cleaning tiles is made very easy and any grime can simply be wiped away with a cloth. Along with using it to help clean toilets, sinks and showers without using harsh chemicals.

The kitchen is another room in the house which is ideal for using a steam cleaner. Cleaning around a hob, oven, splash back, kitchen units and flooring makes life much easier. They can also be used on carpets for spot cleaning. Keep in mind, however, that suction should really be used on carpets to remove excess water.

Benefits of Steam Cleaning

The major benefit of using a home steam cleaner is the fact that you don’t need to use harsh chemicals. The steam simply loosens dirt and grime meaning all you have to do is wipe with a cloth.

Also, steam cleaners can help to eliminate viruses, molds, and dust mites. If someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma then using a steam cleaner will make life a lot more comfortable.

Pricing of Home Steam Cleaners

Typically the more you spend on a home steam cleaner the more features you will get such as an extra tank so water can be continually poured into the machine instead of putting water directly in the heating area. Make sure you think about what features you want from your cleaner before buying.

Reviews – Deciding What Home Steam Cleaner to Buy

Whenever you think about making a large purchase such as this always ensure you have read as many consumer reviews as possible. There are a number of places on the internet you can do this such as www.consumersearch.com.

Reading customer reviews is another great way to find out how the machine performs. Several retailers on the Internet offer areas where customers can write their own reviews on a product. This will give a good insight as to whether the product is ideal for your needs.

Steam cleaning is a cheap and quick way of making your carpet look new again.

If you have heavily soiled carpets, regular vacuuming is not enough to get them clean. A steam cleaner will give much better results. It uses water to penetrate the carpet fibers, removing dirt that vacuum cleaners cannot reach. The result is a clean-looking freash-smelling carpet that can look like it’s just come out of the showroom.

So how does it work? It can seem quite complicated but it’s not.
First you need to fill up the water container. Some machines require you to use hot water but others contain a built-in heater. Check with the enclosed leaflet.

Water by itself will clean less dirty carpets but in most cases you should add a cleaning product to the water. Don’t use any old product – use a special product designed for carpet steam cleaning.

Before you begin, vacuum the carpet and remove as much loose dirt as you can

Now treat any stains with a carpet stain remover product. Spray it on and wipe it in. (You may want to test this out on a small hidden part of the carpet first as some stainers can damage some carpets.)

Now apply the carpet steamer. Use a two stroke movement. On the forward stroke, press the lever to release steam into the carpet. On the reverse stroke, allow the brush to ’scrub’ the carpet, dislodging dirt loosened by the steam. On difficult spots, go over them several times.

Once you have finished, empty the excess water from the steamer and put it away.

The carpet will take some time to dry. Until that point, avoid walking on it as much as possible.

.

Allow the carpet to dry fully before allowing any foot traffic. Leave the windows in the room open if weather permits, to speed the drying process. Fans can also be placed in the doorways, pointed at the carpet, to speed drying.

Step 6

Empty any remaining water out of the steam cleaner’s water container. If water is left in the machine for a long length of time, it will become stagnant.
